Studying /writing Curriculum
Vitaes (CVs) The students are given examples of different types of CVs and covering letters to study. They are also shown examples of advertisements on the WWW and the daily press. The teacher draws the attention of the students to language, style, format and other important features of letter and CV-writing. The students choose a position from the advertisements in the press and for homework they prepare the first draft of their CV and covering letter of application using the examples they've studied. Studying /writing covering
letters The students work in groups looking at each other's CVs and covering letters, editing and making sure the CV is tailored for the position advertised in the newspaper. The teacher will provide feed back on their work and comments. When the CVs and letters are edited each student will take a printed copy with them. |

Browsing through the three
student assistant jobs advertised by Fulda
students/ tailoring CVs and covering letters to match the
jobs and sending them The students look at the positions advertised on the web by the German students and choose one of them and tailor their CV and letter to suit the position and send them to the "employers". The deadline for all applications for the three student assistant jobs is: 27 March 1998 |
Students form juries for the three jobs and fix criteria for selection of applicants. | |

Preparation for job interviews The students receive answers to their applications. Practising and preparation for the interviews. Again formal oral language examples are used for this activity and students are encouraged to role play. The unsuccessful candidates are asked to play the part of the employers. (NB This activity will take 50 - 60 minutes so the students will be engage in vocabulary learning and practice for the rest of the session.) |
Considering the CVs
and the covering letters, making a short list and sending
appropriate letters to each student in Brighton. Letters

The interviews between Fulda and Brighton students in the Video Conferencing room. The unsuccessful students can take part if they wish. or they can work on vocabulary practice. (NB As the time scale of video conferencing depends on the availability of the Fulda students this session may take place at another time and not during the class in which case the class time for Brighton will be used for some other activity.) | 24 April: Job
