Introduction to the "Sustainable Resources" - Project
a project for Fairfax students and Fulda students

Co-ordinators: Mr. David Beach, Fairfax and Dr. Laurent Borgmann, Fulda

Version: 24 March 1998

Welcome to the internet project "renewable energy"

This is the introduction Page of an internet based communication project between two universities.

It has been planned to let a few companies offer each a way to give a fictional country renewable energy power plants.

There are students in Fairfax, Virginia, USA. They represent the government of the fictional country named Beachland. On the other side there are students from Fulda, Germany, who represent the different companies.

Dr. Elmar-Laurent Borgmann, the lecturer of the German students, and Mr. David Beach , the English teacher of advanced composition for Business major, have organized this internet project. They will create the time schedule and integrate the project in the normal English studies of the students.

The task of the Fairfax group is to create a landscape (that of course does not exist) with geographical elements like mount ains, rivers, lakes etc. as well as civilization objects like towns, villages, streets and so on. The Fairfax Group will divide into four small groups and each group will work on one part of the project:

The Fulda group will be divided into five groups. Each group will represent a company for renewable energy power plants. They w ill write an offer to the government of Beachland where they make their proposals concerning the solution of the energy needs of Beachland.

This project is something new for the students, they now must look at all the aspects of the different ways to get energy from sustainable resources.

The Fairfax group will analyze the offers of the German companies and decide which aspects are important for the fictional land Beachland.

The Fulda students on the other side must look in the companies which advantages and disadvantages their technology has. They must try to convince the Fairfax students how good their products are and this groups must also look if the social, political and economical aspects have been noticed in their offers.
