Dear Achill Island project participants,
I thought you might like to read the article about our upcoming trip that I have sent to the Mayo News on Achill Island. While we are there our stay will be documented in greater detail but I definitely wanted to let as many people there as possible know that we are visiting their island soon and are very excited about it.
See you all soon,
Katrin Uhl, PR-manager
THIRD VISIT FROM INTERNATIONAL STUDENT GROUP TO
ACHILL ISLAND
For the third year in a row an international group
of students from several European countries are preparing a visit to Achill
Island. The group of about 25 students and their instructors from universities
in Brighton/United Kingdom, Umeå/Sweden and Fulda/Germany, will spend
a week exploring the island in late January and early February. Inspired
by the experiences reported by the students who have visited the island
previously, the 25 students, together with their instructors Lili Wilson,
Pat Shrimpton, and Laurence Borgmann, are enthusiastically planning the
trip and the individual projects that will be part of it. While on Achill
Island the students hope to not only get an impression of the island’s
environment and beautiful scenery about which they have heard a lot already,
but to also get to know the people and their way of living.
The intercultural project, which is being planned
and realized mainly through the use of the internet and email, aims at
developing international cooperation and friendship between people with
different cultural backgrounds, while at the same time promoting the use
of new media as a means of university education. The students, who come
from countries as diverse as the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, Iran
or Rumania, are hoping to contribute to a dialogue between people from
different countries in general and share their experiences and skills with
the people on Achill Island in particular and are eagerly awaiting their
excursion to Ireland.
