The greatest clarinettist of our time plays Messiaen. Sharon Kam expressly requested the Quartet on the End of Time for her concerts at Villa Musica. The Catholic composer from Avignon clothed his vision of the end times after the apocalypse in glowing chords and endlessly long melodic arcs. ‘Never again has anyone listened with such attention,’ wrote Messiaen in 1941 after the premiere in front of thousands of prisoners of war in the STALAG near Görlitz.
