Summer School in May: Intercultural Day at RheinAhrCampus
Students from Coastal Carolina University (Myrtle Beach) come to Germany in May and complete an intensive study program at FH Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and RheinAhrCampus.
In 2003, the program for the CCU students included special modules in the fields of international marketing, international e-commerce, and intercultural communication.
During the Intercultural Day at RheinAhrCampus Remagen, German and American students explored cultural models and took part in an intercultural simulation which encouraged them to challenge their own cultural assumptions. Afterwards, they experienced work in cross-cultural teams while preparing final summaries concerning the time and entrepreneurial orientation study survey which had been an integral part of the online phase preceding the Maymester activities.
All of these activities provided lots of opportunities to communicate and to solve problems in mixed-nationality teams. The final debriefing enabled students to exchange their perceptions and draw their own conclusions.
In addition to the academic components of the program, the students could experience some glimpses of German History during the Remagen Walk with a local historian. They experienced various special events and excursions which provided them with a thorough introduction to academic life at German universities and German culture in general.
