The National Gallery of Ireland

Once arrived in Dublin everybody was very tired and exausted because of the long train ride or maybe because of the exhausting last evening on Achill Island . Civilisation finally got us back and the landscape had continusly changed on the way from Westport to Dublin. Again people broke up into small groups of threes or fours to first of all get some kind of food (maybe delicious fish and chips?) and then had a look at  the historical sights of this beautiful city. An object of interest not only for artists is the National Gallery of Ireland, near the Trinity college. Founded in the year1854 the Gallery represents history not only by its ancient outlook. The exhibition contains a national collection of Irish art, the national collection of European Old Master Paintings, the Yeats Collection and the National Portrait Collection. Of particular intrest to our little group of visitors was the great Shaw room were students tried to copy or at least learn from their models . In response to our project we were very exited about the Multimedia Gallery and the posibility to explore more of the painters' backgrounds.  An important fact to mention is that the visit itself and Public Tours are for free, but some donation boxes reminded me to support this amazing place of paintings and architecture. At the end of the year 2000 the Gallery will have an all new Millenium wing, including up-to-date facilities for exhibitions.
Right at the moment when we wanted to leave, we were asked to give an interview to make coments and suggestions about the National Gallery of Ireland. Finally we ended up in dialogue with a very nice and open-minded lady. Maybe you would like to go on a virtual tour of the Gallery yourself: http://www.nationalgallery.ie

Double decker bus

One of the special attractions of the capital is the Dublin sightseeing Tour. A double decker bus offers a open air feeling for those who want to have a look on Dublin (weather allowing). In 90 minutes you can pass the complete city from Trinity college to the botanic garden.
