Accommodation manager

Grafik

My main job as accommodation manager was to take care of that a group of 40 people can stay in a save place during the whole trip. So I had to make sure that we book enough rooms in Dublin and the cottages on Achill Island. It was a logistic challenge because I had to mix five nationalities in the rooms and cottages as intercultural as possible but still keep the boys and girls in separate rooms. Quite a difficult task which made me worry sometimes. Furthermore all 40 people were leaving Ireland on different days, the accommodation schedule in Dublin had to change every day. Another part of my manager job was to provide necessary information for the preparation for the trip, like the type of clothes to take, the type of adapter, and the type of technology to bring along etc. Also, during our stay on Achill Island I had to care for the cottages. I had to find someone to fix broken devices and I had to do the final check up. But if you get honoured for your work, the effort is absolutely worth it. So thanks to everybody for the support! It was an enjoyable experience!

100 hugs from the accommodation manager!

Workshop Dublin Architecture

The workshop "Dublin Architecture" by Reka mainly focused on the special Georgian style which characterizes Dublin. The first task that Réka, the workshop leader, gave us was to draw a special place-mark, which could be found in our hometown. Therefore we explored about Cologne Cathedral, Bonn Cathedral and the Kaunas Soboras, just to mention some examples. After that we did a little quiz handling with Dublins most important architectural artifacts. After this we got on our feet and explored these places while taking a long walk through the city. So we visited O'Connel Bridge, the General Post Office, the Millennium Spire, the James Joyce Statue and the Trinity College. We got the task to take two pictures of every place, an overview and a special detail. Our tour ended near the Statue of Oscar Wilde, and then we made a slideshow about our workshop.

Irish music performance in a local pub

This night was much more mysterious than the others. I always (well, frankly since I arrived) had a weird feeling listening to Irish folk music. The atmosphere of the Annexe Inn got even more charming when the local musicians arrived. The noise which is quite usual in a place like this stopped right after the first sound of the flute. People started to stare at these instruments like they never saw live performance before. When the group leader of Oilean began to sing people suddenly became fixated as if they were at a concert of any major performer. I really enjoyed the music which I am surprised about because its not my usual type of music. My favourite moment was when, during their play, Paul and Deinora started to dance. It was like watching River Dance on TV, although not quite. I believe this is the true spirits of Ireland and one of the highlights of my stay.

Spain            Egypt

I was in Egypt with my sisters on a holiday, and got on a boat that did a tour on the river Nyle. This boat had a nice swimming pool, on the deck and nobody used it. It was a very sunny and warm day so me and my sisters decided to put our bikinis on and have a swim. We where very pleased to have the swimming pool to ourselves. We where enjoying our wonderful view of Egypt from the swimming pool when we started to notice that the other boats that where on the river where approaching us....we where getting scared because we thought that they where going to crash with our boat. After a wile, we had four boats around our boat, and all the sailors on the boat where on the deck waving their hands ....it tuck us some seconds to realise that they where saying hello to us!! So we said hello back!! Then they started to through papers to us, we where a bit confused at that moment, I picked one up, and there was a name and a phone number written on it. It was a funny situation!! Then a sailor from our boat started to shout at the other boats and told them to go, and said sorry to us!!  And told us to please put a towel around us!! Then we understood!! We where wearing a Bikini in Egypt!!
