All about Inspiration We started our workshop about Creativity and Culture with an exploration tour at the coast of Achill to find out more about the uniqueness of Achill and which influences the landscape has on local artists and ourselves. Therefore we took some time just wandering around and feeling the special atmosphere. We got very quickly inspired by the different impressions of nature and tried to capture some in pictures. In addition we collected material at the coast to design our own sculpture and we even decided to write our own poems about our impressions and feelings of the day. The following days our workshop visited a local gallery and a local artist to get examples for art produced on Achill. In addition we visited inhabitants of the island to interview them about typical art they have at their houses. We asked them about art in their everyday lives. Furthermore we had a brainstorming how to promote the local art in our different home countries. All in all this workshop gave us the possibility to enlarge our sense for creativity and culture and we realized that a lot of art is present in our everyday lives. We just have to open your eyes and enjoy it. Christina Stockhausen (German group) |

Crossing the Finish Line Farewell Party on Achill Island Lets proudly present: One week Five Workshops 28 students Seven lecturers and a lot of intensive work! On Friday night 28 students of five different workshops presented the results of their work they had done the last week. And what came out of it??? That question was asked by the audience consisting of the group and a lot of locals with their children! Who is the ultimate Intercultural Expert? An eleven year old girl or the audience? The Intercultural expert workshop showed us the very surprising answer: Mia from Denmark who is 11! In four categories, where she did not miss one question she showed everybody her knowledge in Food and Drinks, Sports, Celebrations and Role Plays about non-verbal communication. How to communicate Borrowed Identities and Achill to the world was the question of the week for the Media Workshop who worked hardly on the travelogue and a flyer to advertise Achill. Can I borrow your identity was another workshops question wherein the whole group worked out a whole photo story to be used on an E-learning platform from now on! How to make global responsible tourism on Achill and how Achill could work on their strength and weaknesses was the question for another workshop! They came out with a new analysis wherein the Achill tourism should concentrate on families! Therefore a new website was created! In the end the audience was taken on a journey about inspiration on Achill Island through many images together with the sound of the ocean and poems the students had written! Totally captured through the moving pictures let the audience be totally silent even after the show had ended! And the perfect goodbye for a perfect week and a perfect evening was the song: The Island sung by some students! Thank you very much to everybody for making this evening and the whole week a perfect Achill experience! Maria Koenen (German group) |
