After their arrival in the destination country, the women have to hand over their personal papers such as passport to the traffickers, if this didn`t happen already earlier. They are now allocated to their new working place (as prostitutes on the street, in a brothel, in a brothel-flat, in a bar etc.) Many of the victims who had expected a different, serious job, only now realize, that they have to work as prostitutes. The reaction of the women is, depending on the mentality of the women ,very different. Some comply with the new situation, because the are anxious or feel helpless, others protest or try to escape.
To make the women comply with the new situation, the traffickers have many options to put the women under pressure, such as telling them, they are illegally in the country and they could be punished by the German authorities, or sexual force is being used sometimes, women are being raped, drugs are being given to them to break any resistance and various other kinds of threat are being used as well. The women have now to do everything their customers are asking for, things, a "normal prostitute" would never accept. Most of those women are being kept under cover, which means they have no possibility to contact people who could help them, which would anyhow be a great problem, since most of them don`t speak German. Since they don`t have their personal papers, they are being told, that they haven`t got any rights. The money they earn is immediately being collected, because – as one tells them – they have to pay back the money, the traffickers and brothel-owners had to spend for them before.
