Welcome to all wine-tasters
One More Superlative: The Palatinate is the largest growing area for Rieslings in the world Aside from the large number of varietals produced here, the Palatinate has a distinct profile: it is Riesling country par excellence. The growing acreage dedicated to the “King of Wines” is constantly growing; with its 13,480 acres, the Palatinate has, since 2008 been the largest Riesling-growing region in the world. The quality is equally impressive: top-notch Rieslings from the middle Haardt region, the northernmost wine-growing region of the Palatinate, were numbered in the past as the most expensive and most honored wines in the world and were used, for example, in 1869 for the opening of the Suez Canal. Today, the successors to the wine growers of that era have adopted that tradition. They are still winning prizes at “mundus vini”, “Best of Riesling” and other recognized wine competitions. |
