project information
The New Jewish Cemetery at Fiedlerstrasse 3 has an area of 12,728 square meters. The first burial took place on January 26, 1868. Since then about 3.000 people have been buried here, 2.928 inscriptions are included in the present documentation. The cemetery is still the burial place of the Jewish community in Dresden. The most recent gravestones were not included for reasons of privacy.
From 2001 to 2004, a comprehensive cemetery documentation was created as part of the German government's XENOS anti-racism project. In 2019, Dan Bondy of HATIKVA e.V. was commissioned to edit the documentation and enter it into EPIDAT, the epigraphic database of the Salomon Ludwig Steinheim Institute for German-Jewish History e.V. at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
This edition was supported by the Hermann Reemtsma Foundation.
