People with disabilities are warmly invited to church services and may visit the Speyer Cathedral at no cost. An accessible entranceway is located at the Benno-Portal on the northeast side of the cathedral. For mass, the first row on the left side of the nave is reserved for people with disabilities.

Construction of the Speyer Cathedral began almost a thousand years ago. For this reason, the way it is built deviates significantly from today’s building standards, and unfortunately this means that not all areas are accessible to everyone.  The Cathedral Chapter is seeking to make these problematic areas accessible to those with disabilities, and is searching for a solution that takes into account both the needs of the visitor and the architectural material, which has evolved organically over the centuries.
