Enjoy the Ahr valley

The Ahr valley with its mild climate, more than 1300 hours of sunshine during the year and its very low rainfall attracts many nature lovers, wine lovers, gourmets, health and wellbeing enthusiasts as well as those energetic people who love trying new trendy sports. Romantics once called the Ahr valley „the wildest daughter of the Rhine“, which is little wonder when you look at the scenery, with the romantic course of the river, wonderful rock formations, ruins, idyllic castles and picturesque terraced vineyards.
The river Ahr meanders its way through the valley over 89km. The particular charm lies in the variety of the nature: At the Middle Ahr the valley cuts deep into hillsides. Especially the northern banks, where you find ancient, steeply terraced vineyards, rocky ridges and ascending woods are used preferably for wine growing. Between Rech and Mariental the valley broadens out to the ledge called “colourful cow” (Bunte Kuh) where it becomes narrow again. At Bad-Neuenahr the valley suddenly opens up and blends into wide fertile meadows until reaching the mouth of the river near Remagen.
The features of one of the nicest valleys leading off the Rhine – the Ahr valley – vary from gentle green hills to wonderful jagged rocks. The unique landscape of the Ahr inspires both young visitors and those who are young at heart. Take your time to rest on one of the numerous spectacular lookouts and enjoy the amazing views across the river valley. Discover the enormous variety of flora and fauna in the Ahr valley including some rare species such as the Kingfisher or the Dice snake.
