Wheelmap - Finding wheelchair-accessible locations in Speyer

Translating the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has become one of the most important policy goals of the city of Speyer. The ability of all disabled persons to participate in social activities on an equal footing with that of the rest of the population is important to us. That is why we have begun to capture a wide range of the  activities of daily life in Speyer in the database called Wheelmap.org which is designed to help you find your way around our city without encountering barriers.

Steps here, stairways there or no toilets for the disabled - thanks to Wheelmap.org you will now know ahead of time whether a museum, movie theater, or nearby restaurant is prepared to serve your needs. The Wheelmap.org database provides a map to search for and find wheelchair-friendly locations, not only in Speyer but in the entire world. Like Wikipedia, it is available to everyone so that you can yourself grade public locations for their accessibility, no matter where they may be.

The grading follows a traffic-light model:

•         Green means wheelchair accessible
•         Yellow means limited wheelchair accessibility
•         Red means no wheelchair accessibility

Ungraded locations appear in gray and can be quickly and simply graded  by users. All of the information thus collected from everyone is freely accessible to everyone, easy to understand and available around-the-clock.
