Exchange Program Preparing to study in Koblenz

After being accepted by the University of Koblenz, you can begin preparing for your time abroad. Please be sure to complete the following before your departure for Germany:

You should begin looking for accommodation in Koblenz around three months prior to your departure. You will need to find out on your own about the various housing options. Please contact your student mentor if you need assistance.

Dormitories

The following student dormitories are located near the university, allowing you to reach the university on foot or by bus in little time.

If you are interested in receiving a room in a dormitory, it is best to fill out the application for residency as soon as possible. With demand being higher than rooms available, please inform us in advance if you are applying so we can contact the dormitory and let you know if there are any rooms available!

Apartments and shared apartments

If you are looking for a residency outside of the student dormitories, the following internet sites can assist you in finding apartments and shared apartments.

If you are from one of the following countries, you do not need a Visa to study in Germany (status as of January 2012):

  • EU countries
  • Israel
  • USA and Canada
  • some South and Central American countries
  • Australia and New Zealand
  • Japan and South Korea

Students from all other nations need a visa for studying purposes. The entry requirements can be found in detail at the DAAD and the Federal Foreign Office.

How to apply for a visa?

Please begin the application process for a student visa at least three months prior to your departure for Germany. You can obtain your Letter of Acceptance from the International Office at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences.
With this letter, you can then apply for a visa at the embassy or consulate. To apply, you will also need to show proof of financial stability. You must show proof that you are able to finance your studies!

While applying for a visa in your home country, you will have to show proof that, by the time you begin studying, you will have a credit balance of 8,040 €.

  • You need this amount in order to finance your studies and living expenses for at least one year.
  • To reach this amount, you will need to have a monthly sum of 670 €. As a student, this is the amount you will need to live in Germany.

You must show proof of financial stability each time you extend your residence permit. Among other factors, the validity of your resident permit is dependent on how long you can prove to financially support your studies in Germany.

Do not enter the country with a tourist visa! Enrollment at the university is not possible with a tourist visa!
