Network, Catalyst, Regional Initiative

The Zukunftsinitiative Rheinland-Pfalz (ZIRP) e.V. (engl. Initiative for the future of Rhineland-Palatinate) serves to institute the state as an international location of business and industry, an attractive place to live and work, as well as a place with a lively and flourishing European culture in cooperation with partners of business, politics, science and the arts. The ZIRP promotes dialogue between different social groups and provides stimuli for leading edge projects. The ZIRP is at once a network, catalyst and a regional initiative.

The initiative was founded in 1992 and is made possible through a sponsoring association made up of 90 figures, companies and institutions from politics, business, science, the arts and churches. It is unique in that it is the only organization in Germany in this form. Especially important for the members of the ZIRP is the development of the state’s future. They cooperate and share their experience and expertise within the think tank that is the ZIRP.

Margret Suckale is the chairman of the ZIRP. She was a member of the board of the German chemical company BASF SE until May 2017. The vice chairman is Malu Dreyer, the prime minister of Rhineland-Palatinate. The board supporting the chairmen is made up of representatives of Rhineland-Palatinate’s most important sectors. The business office in Mainz takes up the ideas of the board and utilizes them in projects and publications.
