klicksafe cooperates with ZDF: "App+on" brings online competence into schools
Ludwigshafen/Düsseldorf, 26.10.2020 | The EU initiative klicksafe, together with ZDF, provides teaching materials based on the web magazine "App+on". The newly developed material package "App+on - Sicher, kritisch und fair im Netz" (App+on - safe, critical and fair on the web) is aimed at students in fifth grade and above and includes ten learning units.
The teaching units are based on ten selected videos from the existing ZDFtivi media education offering "App+on". Together with ZDF, klicksafe has thus developed teaching materials and project proposals that make the video series "App+on" a resource for teachers . The topics include false ideals of beauty on Instagram, the dangers of fake news or the repetition of gender stereotypes in online profiles.
Teachers can integrate these materials, which teach children and young people how to use the Internet critically and responsibly, into their lessons and teachonline skills for dealing safely with online phenomena in an entertaining way. In the units, which each comprise one school lesson, children and young people are educated about possible risks. They can repeat what they have learned in small project tasks and transfer it to everyday practice. The teaching material is now available digitally at klicksafe.de/appundon and as a print version at klicksafe.de/bestellung .
Dr. Marc Jan Eumann, Director of the Media Authority Rhineland-Palatinate, welcomes the cooperation between klicksafe and ZDFtivi: "Today, digital media are a natural part of young people's everyday lives. However, time and again children and young people come into contact with content that can frighten or unsettle them. That's why we're pleased to be working with ZDF to give educators new tools to better prepare students for risks online."
Since 2017, the media education ZDFtivi offering "App+on" has beenusing short videos to teach children and young people how to use the Internet critically and responsibly - for a safe and socially acceptable online experience using real-life examples. The two- to three-minute videos revolve around a group of friends who become personally acquainted with the dangers and pitfalls of the Internet and show what a confident approach to digital media can look like.
