With its informative explanatory videos, meaningful graphics and diverse range of topics, it particularly convinced the independent jury of experts. The Instagram channel "quarks.de" also won the public online vote for the "AudienceLike" category with an overwhelming majority.
Düsseldorf/Ludwigshafen, November 26, 2020. - The EU initiative klicksafe is sending a signal against disinformation and conspiracy ideologies. With the klicksafe Award 2020 - For Safe Information on the Net, it honors digital information offerings that provide trust and orientation in the increasingly competitive news world through fact-based information. In addition to the established prize of the expert jury, the new "PublikumsLike" will also be awarded this year. For the first time in the 14-year history of the klicksafe award, the general public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite through online voting.

The Instagram channel "quarks.de", which is part of the WDR format "Quarks", was able to convince this year's expert jury. From the jury's statement: "Due to the flood of information on the net, it is becoming increasingly difficult to filter information and recognize its truth content. Digital offerings such as the Instagram account of "Quarks" create orientation for users through secure information and easily accessible knowledge."
This year, the independent jury of experts consisted of:
- Farah Schäfer, presenter and online journalist at the Instagram channel "Mädelsabende", awarded the klicksafe prize 2019.
- Oğuz Yılmaz, digital expert, artist manager and social media pioneer as part of the multiple award-winning YouTube channel Y-Titty
- Nadine Eikenbusch, media educator and speaker at the EU initiative klicksafe.

The "PublikumsLike" as part of the klicksafe prize 2020 - For safe information on the net also goes to the Instagram channel "quarks.de".
For the "PublikumsLike", which was offered for the first time, the interested public was able to vote for their favorite format on the klicksafe website for two weeks. A total of 45,735 people took part in the online voting, more than half of whom cast their vote for "quarks.de".
In addition to the winning format, the following were also nominated for both award categories:
- The YouTube channel "Breaking Lab" takes viewers into the endless universe of science and shows with the help of spectacular experiments and current scientific findings that complex topics can also be fun.
- "erklaermirmal" is a queer and (post)migrant explanatory format on Instagram that offers a platform to marginalized voices that have so far often been lost in the media world. In this way, new ways of looking at things and possibilities for action are shown and the political discourse is opened up to everyone.
- The Instagram format "News WG" relies on digital storytelling and the playful presentation of political facts to get young people excited about politics and social issues.
- The funk format "Y-Kollektiv" reports on YouTube about the big stories of our time. In transparently researched web documentaries and reports, viewers are taken up close and personal and experience a world away from the mainstream.

The klicksafe prize has been awarded since 2006. It honors new and creative formats that promote fair and respectful online behavior, digital rights, equal participation and self-determination, and education against misconduct and disinformation.
Nominations can be made for digital contributions, measures, projects and initiatives that encourage social engagement, achieve a high level of reach, are easily accessible to users and designed with the target group in mind, can also be dealt with in schools or other educational institutions, and do not pursue any commercial interests.
With a view to current social developments, there will also be an annually changing thematic focus. The klicksafe prize 2020 is awarded for safe information on the Internet.
