klicksafe award 2021klicksafe award 2021 - Strong against prejudice: Showing face against enemy images and disinformation
On the occasion of its annual theme "Disinformation," the EU initiative klicksafe is awarding prizes to online content that debunks deliberately spread prejudices and constructed images of the enemy. Five formats are nominated that raise awareness and provide fact-based information. In addition to the prize awarded by the jury of experts, the "PublikumsLike" will also be awarded this year, for which online voting is now open. The announcement of the winning formats of the klicksafe award 2021 will take place on August 10.
Düsseldorf/Ludwigshafen, 20.07.2021 - Prejudices are present in much of the content that is published and disseminated online, even if they are not always directly perceptible. They become a danger to individuals and society as a whole at the latest when extremist actors use targeted disinformation to build up images of the enemy in individuals or entire groups.
For the klicksafe Award 2021, the EU initiative klicksafe has nominated five digital offerings that aim to debunk prejudices through education and information, thus removing the basis for disinformation.
Nominated are:
- What you don't see: Since 2020, the Instagram account has been making structural everyday racism in Germany visible and giving those affected a platform. At the same time, all users are encouraged to reflect on their own - possibly unconsciously racist - behavior.
- The best instance: In response to the WDR program "Die letzte Instanz," in which an all-white panel discussed racism, among other things, comedienne Enissa Amani produced her own YouTube show in which she talks to experts about topics such as antiziganism and anti-Semitism.
- Naber? What works!-Your path, your story: The reportage series tells the biographies of young women with Turkish and Kurdish immigration stories in ten-minute YouTube portraits and on an associated Instagram channel, thus creating a surface for identification.
- Riccardo Simonetti Initiative: Promoting tolerance and understanding and creating a place where everyone feels understood, heard and taken seriously - these are the goals of the Riccardo Simonetti Initiative. On the Instagram account of the same name and in the analog world, it does educational work, conveys information, raises awareness and creates visibility for marginalized and disadvantaged groups of people.
- Datteltäter: Declaring war on stereotypes with satire is the goal of the self-proclaimed "Satire Caliphate" at funk. On YouTube and in the social networks, the creators take aim at cultural clichés and deal with the German-Muslim self-image.
This year, the klicksafe prize will again be awarded in two categories. For the "PublikumsLike", introduced in 2020, a public online voting has been running since July 20, in which all Internet users can participate without registering. Voting will continue until August 9 at: www.klicksafe.de/klicksafepreis
In the main category, the klicksafe Award 2021 - Strong Against Prejudice will be awarded as usual by a renowned independent jury of experts. This consists of:
- Saba-Nur Cheema, Head of Pedagogical Education at the Anne Frank Educational Center.
- Jonathan Focke, Deputy Head of Quarks Digital
- Nadine Eikenbusch, media educator and consultant at the EU initiative klicksafe
The winning formats of both the jury award and the "PublikumsLike" will beannounced on August 10 - due to the pandemic situation another time virtually.

About the klicksafe award
The klicksafe prize has been awarded since 2006. It honors creative formats that promote fair and respectful online behavior, digital rights, equal participation and self-determination, and education against abuse and disinformation. The decision is made by an independent jury of experts; since 2020, the "PublikumsLike" has also been awarded, which can be voted for online.
Nominations are made for digital contributions, measures, projects and initiatives that encourage social engagement, achieve a high reach, are easily accessible to users , are designed to suit the target group, can also be dealt with in schools or other educational institutions, and do not pursue any commercial interests.
With a view to current social developments, an annually changing thematic focus is also set. The klicksafe prize 2021 will be awarded under the motto "Strong against prejudice".
